We welcomed a delegation from Jawatankuasa Penasihat kepada Pihak Berkuasa Kompeten Kebangsaan (JPCNA) led by its Chairman, YBhg Dato’ Sri Dr. Hj. Abd. Rahman bin Hj. Abd Rahim.
We had the pleasure of hosting the visit by His Excellency Takahashi Katsuhiko, Ambassador of Japan to Malaysia. He was accompanied by his wife, Madam Takahashi Mami, and his officers, Ms Masubuchi Kana (Diplomatic Officer) and Mr Yagai Yuki (Second Secretary of Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries & Environment).
The delegates were welcomed by Dr Yeo Tiong Chia, SBC Chief Executive Officer, Madam Margarita Naming, Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Madam Hajah Khaninah Binti Haji Ariff, Principal Assistant Secretary, Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development as well as Dr Huang Hsiang Ting, General Manager, Chitose Laboratory Corp. Japan.
Mdm Margarita led the briefing at Laila Taib ethnobotanical garden and introduce interesting plants and its usage to the delegates. Meanwhile, Dr Huang briefed the delegates on the one of its kind Algae Cultivation Facility in South East Asia while highlighting the useful microalgae for biomass, feedstock, biofuel, food, and health supplement.
SBC's Natural Product Library (NPL) and Borneo scents as well as its potential for commercialisation were also showcased to the delegates.
To commemorate his visit, H.E Takahashi planted the Kemantan tree (Mangifera torquenda), a rare jungle mango that is native to Borneo. The species is listed as Vulnerably under the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species.
The visit culminated in a fruitful discussions and we look forward to continue fostering more collaborative relationship with the Japan counterparts.

Yang Berhormat Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn, the Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development paid an official visit to SBC today as part of familiarisation visit to agencies under this Ministry since his appointment.
The Minister was accompanied by YB Datuk Francis Harden Hollis, Deputy Minister for Education and Talent Development II (Talent Development), and a delegation comprising officers from the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD).
During the visit, Datuk Roland Sagah and the delegates were briefed on SBC roles and functions in order to drive the growth of bioindustries in Sarawak. Datuk also witnessed the industrial and scale-up commercialisation of bio-based products during a tour around SBC's established facilities and highlights of SBC’s discoveries.
The participating communities of LitSara®️ and AdenoSara®️ projects were also present to share their experiences and social impacts of the projects towards their livelihood, skills, and knowledge.
To commemorate his visit, YB Datuk Roland planted a Dryobalanops beccarii also known as Keladan (Iban) or Kapur (Malay). The wood texture is soft to moderately hard, resistant to fungi and dry wood borers, and moderately resistant to termites. The wood is commonly used for construction.
Pada Selasa, 4 Ogos 2020, YB Datuk Amar Jaul Samion, Setiausaha Negeri Sarawak ayng juga Pengerusi kepada Majlis Kepelbagaian Biologi Sarawak melawat SBC. Tujuan lawatan ini adalah untuk memberi taklimat ringkas kepada beliau tentan peranan dan fungsi SBC.
Rombingna ini juga terdiri daripada ahli-ahli majlis serta wakil seperti berikut; Dr. Abdul Rahman Deen, Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Research (Representing Permanent Secretary), Mr Kenny Poon, Ministry of Urban Development and Natural Resources (Representing Permanent Secretary), YBhg Prof Datu Dr Andrew Kiyu Dawie, Professor of Public Health, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, University Malaysia Sarawak, YBhg Dato Goh Leng Chua, Director, Lawmakers, Dr Alvin Chai Lian Kuet, Director of Agriculture and Mr Justine Jok Jau Emang, Controller of Environmental Quality, Sarawak.
Pada 17 Septermber 2019, YB Dr Xavier Jayakumar, Menteri dari Kementerian Air, Tanah dan Sumber Asli (KATS) dan delegasi beliau telah melawat SBC. Beliau disambut oleh Pengerusi Majlis Kepelbagaian Biologi Sarawak, YBhg Tan Sri Datuk Amar Wilson Baya Dandot dan staff SBC.
Beliau serta delegasi diberi taklimat tentang fungsi-fungsi dan pencapaian SBC. Kerjasama bersama SBC juga dibincangkan semasa lawatan tersebut.
