Industrial Trainees, February 2019

Kippi

I'm Kippi Dinny Nosin, a final year student and currently taking up Diploma in Agrotechnology & Bio-Industry of Politeknik Sandakan, Sabah. I would like to express my gratitude towards Sarawak Biodiversity Centre for accepting my industrial training application. It is a great opportunity to be an internship student here in SBC and I will be doing my internship for 5 months.

I was assigned to Traditional knowledge and Plant Tissue Culture lab and after that to the Analytical Chemistry Laboratory. There was a lot of new knowledge that I got from the very first week until the 11th week while I'm here. The reason why I enjoyed it all so much was because of the hands-on experience.

The theories I've learned all this while were applied accordingly together with new devices and new techniques that were taught to me by the staff. I feel grateful that I am blessed with amazingly friendly and helpful staffs in SBC. They have been such great mentors and stands as great role-models.

SBC also gave me the opportunity to travel to complete the task and to visit the Traditional Knowledge community. My training experience here will for sure help me adapt in the real work situation in the future. I also feel encouraged to be a part of a biodiversity community.

Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Applied Chemistry

I would like to express my gratitude towards Sarawak Biodiversity Centre (SBC) for giving me the opportunity to undergo my industrial training for a period of 8 weeks. The first day I came here, I was very nervous because I have never experienced a real working environment.

I was assigned at Analytical Chemistry Laboratory. I get the opportunities to hands-on experience in operating analytical chemistry instruments. Besides Analytical Chemistry Laboratory, I also have been assigned at Plant Preparation Laboratory and Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory. At these laboratories, I learnt how to do plant preparation and how to propagate plants.

My internship at SBC has given me the opportunity to develop many skills and have a better understanding of the theories that I have learned back in the university.

Last but not least, I would like to express my gratitude to all the staff at SBC. They always willing to teach, especially my supervisor Madam Siti Muhaini that has given me guidance.

The experiences that I had obtained during the internship will be useful for my future career.

First and foremost, I would like to express my gratitude towards SBC for accepting my industrial training application. It was a great opportunity to be an internship student here at SBC for a duration of 8 weeks. I was assigned to Analytical Chemistry Laboratory. During the first week, I was taught about the cycle of the process that includes the plant preparation, extraction and analysis in various laboratories.

Besides, I learned a lot on lab research work and practical skills and implement all the theories that have been learned during lectures. Other than that, I was also assigned at nursery for planting process. As a chemistry student, we do not learn about planting or propagation of plants, however, it became a great opportunity for us to learn and experience new things while gained some knowledge about planting process.

Here, I would like to thank to my supervisor, Madam Nur Khairun Nisa, that sincerely and patiently giving advices and guidance to me throughout my training. I would like to mention other research officers and staffs that were very kind, friendly and were willing to teach whenever I have questions and faced some difficulties. From the first day, they welcomed me very kindly with smile. The reason why I enjoyed my internship here in SBC because of the hands-on experience throughout the training. For example, I have experienced on how to operate the analytical instruments ang giving the chance to use it.

Thanks to SBC, I will gladly bring this meaningful experience together with me as I face the working world in the future. It was a priceless memory and knowledge that I will never forget.
