Sarawak Biodiversity Centre invites highly motivated and qualified candidates to fill the following positions:

1. Position: Assistant Research Officer, Q29

Research and Dedvelopment Programme

  1. Jawatan Berasaskan Caruman, JBC - 1 Vacancy
  2. 2 Years Contract - 2 Vacancies

Salary Schedule: Q29

Minimum Salary (RM)  Maximum Salary (RM)  Yearly Increment (RM)

The successful candidates will be expected to work in the following areas:

  • Field trip to collect and record specimens
  • Maintain Natural Product Library database (record keeping and documentation)
  • Collection of data from analysed sample
  • Data entry to the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
  • Stock inventory and documentation/ record keeping
  • Assist in Isolation of microorganism, compound and other natural products
  • Handling and preparation of media, reagents and apparatus for experiments
  • Learn new laboratory techniques and operate laboratory equipment
  • In charge of lab equipment including monitoring the performance, defect, maintenance, servicing and minor repairs if necessary

Qualification:

  • Diploma in Science (CGPA of 3.0 and above) from local higher learning institution or equivalent qualification recognized by the Government (Starting basic salary: RM 1,774.37)
  • Credit (at least Grade C) in Bahasa Malaysia subject at SPM/SVM/MCE level
  • Candidate must also have good command of the English language (spoken and written)
  • Computer literate i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel and email

2. Position: Assistant Research Officer, Q29 - Contract (2 Years)

Traditional Knowledge Documentation Programme

Salary Schedule: Q29

The successful candidates will be expected to work in the following areas:

To assist in implementing Traditional Knowledge Documentation Programme which includes:

  • Field trip to collect and record specimens
  • Will be trained with communities, farming and extraction of essential oil
  • Coordinate activities related to benefit sharing with ethnic communities
  • Collection and propagation of plants including assist Research Officer in conducting experiment
  • Preparation of plants voucher specimen

Qualification:

  • Diploma in Science (CGPA of 3.0 and above) from local higher learning institution or equivalent qualification recognized by the Government (Starting basic salary: RM 1,774.37)
  • Credit (at least Grade C) in Bahasa Malaysia subject at SPM/SVM/MCE level
  • Candidate must also have good command of the English language (spoken and written)
  • Computer literate i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel and email
  • Able to lift minimum 20kg and work outdoors in the fields

3. Position: Research Assistant, Q19 - Contract (2 Years)

Research and Development Programme, Project Basis - 2 Vacancies

Salary Schedule: Q19

1,355.00   4,007.00 100.00 

The successful candidates will be expected to work in the following areas:

  • Prepare growth media and components according to laboratories protocols and recipes
  • Prepare all stages of algae culture (from seedling to harvesting)
  • Measure and record basic water quality parameters such as temperature, pH, fluorimeter reading and salinity perform routine and regular monitoring of cultures and minor repairs of the cultivation system
  • Learn new laboratory techniques and operate laboratory equipment
  • Maintain stock cultures

Qualification:

  • Candidate must have a SPM/SVM/MCE certificate or equivalent qualification recognized by the Government (Starting basic salary: RM 1,355.00)
  • Credit (at least Grade C) in Bahasa Malaysia subject at SPM/SVM/MCE level
  • Candidate must also have good command of the English language (spoken and written)
  • Computer literate i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel and email
  • Able to lift minimum 20kg and work outdoors in algae cultivation facility for at least 5 hours a day
  • Able to work on weekends and public holidays

4. Position: Security Guard, KP11 - Jawatan Berasaskan Caruman, JBC

Administrative Section - 1 Vacancy

Salary Schedule: KP11

Minimum Salary (RM)  Maximum Salary (RM)  Yearly Increment (RM) 
1,205.00   2,939.00 80.00 

The successful candidates will be expected to work in the following areas:

  • To report any incidences on break-ins, emergencies etc to the management and relevant authorities (e.g. Police, BOMBA, Ambulance etc)
  • Patrol and monitor safety of buildings, facilities and employees
  • Control visitors’ entry and exit from premises
  • Control traffic and implement parking rules

Qualification:

  • A former policeman with minimum Constables rank or a former army with minimum Private (Prebet) rank or equivalent, has been confirmed in service and has a good service record (Starting basic salary: RM 1,205.00)
  • Candidate must have a PT3/PMR/SRP/LCE or equivalent qualification recognized by the Government (Starting basic salary: RM 1,205.00)
  • Credit (at least Grade C) in Bahasa Malaysia subject at PT3/PMR/SRP/LCE level
  • Candidate must also have good command of the English language (spoken and written)
  • Male only
  • Candidate must have the physical measurements as follows:
    • minimum height of 1.57m without shoes
    • minimum weight of 48kg
    • Body Mass Index (BMI) of 19 to 26
    • have a normal chest size minimum 79cm and while breathing 84cm
    • pass a vision test for left and right eyes tested separately with V6/9 resolution without the use of glasses/contact lens
    • no color vision defects and no hearing impaired
    • checked and certified by the Medical Officer suitable for employment
