The Sarawak Biodiversity Centre (SBC) is excited to announce its annual event, SBC Biodiversity Day 2025, in conjunction with the International Day for Biodiversity. The international event is observed annually every May 22.
SBC Biodiversity Day will be held on May 24, at KM20 Jalan Borneo Heights, Semenggoh 93250 Kuching, from 8am to 5pm, and admission is free to all.
This year’s theme for the International Day for Biological Diversity is “Harmony with Nature and Sustainable Development”, which links the United Nation’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the targets of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF).
“This year's theme is particularly significant in the local context as Sarawak has just launched its Biodiversity Policy, which integrates biodiversity aspects into development strategies across all sectors. For us, SBC is where traditional knowledge (TK) meets science, and the international theme also celebrates the vital harmony between our efforts to document TK and the scientific research conducted here at SBC", said Dato Dr Yeo Tiong Chia, CEO of SBC.
SBC Biodiversity Day 2025 offers a range of activities, including science games, exhibition, traditional knowledge showcase, guided jungle trekking, and exhibitions from various agencies and indigenous communities.
It also provides an opportunity for members of the public, school students, universities, and research institutes to engage in the sharing on biodiversity, science and R&D undertaken at SBC.
