Visit by the Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development

Yang Berhormat Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn, the Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development paid an official visit to SBC today as part of familiarisation visit to agencies under this Ministry since his appointment.

The Minister was accompanied by YB Datuk Francis Harden Hollis, Deputy Minister for Education and Talent Development II (Talent Development), and a delegation comprising officers from the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD).

During the visit, Datuk Roland Sagah and the delegates were briefed on SBC roles and functions in order to drive the growth of bioindustries in Sarawak. Datuk also witnessed the industrial and scale-up commercialisation of bio-based products during a tour around SBC's established facilities and highlights of SBC’s discoveries.

The participating communities of LitSara®️ and AdenoSara®️ projects were also present to share their experiences and social impacts of the projects towards their livelihood, skills, and knowledge.

To commemorate his visit, YB Datuk Roland planted a Dryobalanops beccarii also known as Keladan (Iban) or Kapur (Malay). The wood texture is soft to moderately hard, resistant to fungi and dry wood borers, and moderately resistant to termites. The wood is commonly used for construction.
