Green Growth, Endless Possibilities

Expired

Objective: To provide an understanding of plant tissue culture techniques used to grow plants under sterile, controlled conditions. This process enables the production of genetically identical plants,  conservation of rare or endangered specis and helps generate disease-free planting material.

Method: This session will explain the tissue culture process of Pahkak. Various stages of the tissue culture process including shoot multiplication, rooting and acclimatization will be displayed. Participants will also engage in a hands on activity to acclimatize of tissue culture plantlets.

Learning outcome: Paticipants will gain an understanding of the basic principles and stages of plant tissue culture and its applications in plant propagation. They will learn the role of tissue culture in conserving endangered plant species or producing economically important plants. They will also gain hands-on experience in acclimatizing tissue culture plantlets.

Participants will learn the process of plantlet acclimatization by carefully removing the plantlets from culture jars, washing the roots to remove any remaining agar, wrapping the roots with cocopeat fiber and placing them into containers with lid to maintain humidity. They will be able to take their plantlet home, along with care instructions to support successful growth.
