Initiative towards Socio-Economic Recovery of Community-Based Sector and MSMEs associated with Bio-related Products in Sarawak

A project envisioned by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Sarawak Biodiversity Centre (SBC) aims to help Sarawak’s community-based sector and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) recover from the business crisis affected by COVID-19, with the support of Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) and Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment Sarawak (MINTRED).

Under the UNDP COVID-19 Socio-Economic Recovery Fund, a total of 6 communities; Rumah Bajau, Julau, Rumah Janang, Selangau, Rumah Machup, Roban, Rumah Emak, Kapit, Kampung Kuala Medalam, Limbang and Kampung Jemoreng, Matu has been participated due to their richness of Sekiu Oil and Engkabang Butter which has the capacity to be fully developed product. Capacity building workshops were organized via online to enhance community’s knowledge and skill in entrepreneurship as well as to advance the market expansion towards e-commerce.

The project strengthens the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 as it shares comprehensive programme of digital innovation, looking after the interest of women and reducing gap between rural and urban areas.
