Sarawak Biodiversity Insights: featuring Analytical Technologies for Determining and Ensuring Food Provenance, Authenticity and Quality by Dr Ujang Tinggi

The Sarawak Biodiversity Centre (SBC) will be hosting a talk titled Sarawak Biodiversity Insights: featuring Analytical Technologies for Determining and Ensuring Food Provenance, Authenticity and Quality by Dr Ujang Tinggi on 9th January 2026 at 2:30 p.m.

Dr Ujang Tinggi is an Associate Professor at Griffith University, Australia, and Acting Chief Chemist at the Department of Queensland Health. He is an analytical chemist with expertise in trace element analysis, chemical testing, and health risk assessment. He has published extensively and is a frequent invited speaker at national and international conferences.

In his talk, Dr Tinggi will share insights on the growing issue of food fraud and adulteration, which has become more common with increasing international food trade. He will explain how scientific testing and analytical technologies can be used to check food authenticity, quality, and origin.

Dr Tinggi will highlight how these tools could be used to detect food fraud, trace the origins of food products, and ensure what we consume is authentic and safe. The session will also touch on challenges scientists face when analysing complex food samples, and the need for standardised methods and reference guidelines for food authenticity investigations.

Registration is free and open to all. Participants may attend physically at SBC, via Zoom by registering at https://qrco.de/SBCTALK2 or stream the event live on SBC’s official Facebook page: www.facebook.com/sarawak.biodiversity.centre. Attendees will also have the opportunity to engage with the presenter during a live Q&A session.
