The Sarawak Biodiversity Centre (SBC) will be hosting a webinar titled Sarawak Biodiversity Insights: featuring THE INVISIBLE JUNGLE – Camouflage and Mimicry in the Rainforest by Chien C. Lee on 26th November 2025 at 10:00 a.m.
Chien C. Lee is a biologist and award-winning conservation photographer who has spent more than 25 years exploring tropical rainforests across multiple continents. Through his scientific background and award-winning photography, he has documented an extraordinary range of adaptations that allow organisms to hide in plain sight or assume false identities in order to survive.
In this talk, Chien will guide audiences on a visual and scientific journey into the hidden world of camouflage, mimicry, and masquerade. From cryptic concealments to masterful mimics, he will showcase how insects, reptiles, birds, and other rainforest inhabitants use deception to evade predators, ambush prey, and navigate complex ecosystems.
The session will also highlight what these adaptations reveal perception, natural selection, and the delicate interconnectedness of all living things. By examining how life in the rainforest blurs the line between reality and illusion, participants will gain a deeper appreciation of the diversity, fragility, and ingenuity of nature.
