The Sarawak Biodiversity Centre (SBC) will be hosting a webinar titled Sarawak Biodiversity Insights: featuring Unseen Treasures in Our Backyard by Nathaline Ping on 13th October 2025 at 10:00 a.m.
Nathaline Ping is an enthusiastic naturalist dedicated to exploring and sharing Sarawak's lesser-known wildlife. She is currently pursuing her Master’s in Wildlife Management at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), further deepening her expertise in the field. With years of field experience and a passion for storytelling, Nathaline aims to show how even the most overlooked species are vital parts of our natural heritage.
In this webinar session, participants will be introduced to the burrow-loving frog, Limnonectes cintalubang, a recently described species found only in western Sarawak. Known for its unusual habit of hiding in abandoned burrows, this frog is just one example of the surprising wildlife that thrives in Kampung Sentah, Siburan. From frogs and lizards to snakes and other hidden neighbours, Nathaline will unpack how these species maintain ecological balance and why safeguarding their habitats is vital for long-term environmental resilience.
Though small and often unseen, species like L. cintalubang remind us of the extraordinary treasures living right in our backyard. With their fragile habitats and unique lifestyles, they show how every piece of Sarawak's biodiversity matters and how much we stand to lose without care and awareness. By the end of the talk, participants will gain a new appreciation for these local creatures as part of Sarawak's natural legacy worth saving.
Registration is free and open to all. Participants can join via Zoom by registering at https://qrco.de/SBCTALK2 or stream the event live on SBC’s official Facebook page: www.facebook.com/sarawak.biodiversity.centre. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions with the presenter during a live Q&A session.
