The Microbiology Laboratory focuses on the isolation and identification of microorganisms from the Sarawak rainforest ecosystem, particularly actinobacteria and fungi, for their potential industrial, healthcare, or agricultural application. All microbial extracts are deposited into SBC Natural Product Library.
SBC's in-house anti-microbial screening showed that the extracts from these diverse microbial cultures exhibited specific and broad-spectrum activity, which makes the extracts ideal as starting points for the discovery of new antibiotics.
