A mini symposium on the Algae Industry will be held on the second day of BioBorneo 2012 which is being organized jointly by the Sarawak Biodiversity Centre and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI).
Held on the afternoon of 25 February 2012, Saturday, the mini symposium will feature six presentations on the utilization and farming of algae for food and fuel.
Science Advisor to the Prime Minister and Co-Chair of the Malaysian Aerospace Innovation Centre, Professor Emeritus Dato Dr Zakri Hamid will deliver a keynote address for the mini symposium entitled “Aviation biofuel from Algae – prospects for Malaysia”.
BioBorneo is a new and exciting event which caters to all levels of society on biotechnology and harnessing Borneo’s biodiversity through research and development. Sarawak has been chosen to host the inaugural event held also in conjunction with Malaysia’s Year of Science and Innovation 2012.SBC and MOSTI has also teamed up with the Biotechnology Corporation of Malaysia (Biotech Corp) Malaysia Genome Institute (MGI) and the Malaysian Biotechnology Information Centre (MABIC) to organize BioBorneo 2012 which will take place from 24 to 26 February 2012.
Themed “Accelerating Innovation of the Borneo Bioeconomy” BioBorneo 2012 will be held at Pullman Hotel and the Hills Shopping Mall and will comprise of a Seminar and the mini symposium; Industrial Exhibition and Business Matching sessions; and MyBio@School and BioCarnival progammes.
