
BioBorneo, a new and exciting event which caters to all levels of society looks set to be Borneo’s premier event on biotechnology and harnessing Borneo’s biodiversity through research and development.
Organised by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) the BioBorneo is a satellite event of the BioMalaysia which is held every year in Kuala Lumpur and is targeted to be an annual event, hosted alternately between Sarawak and Sabah.
Sarawak has been chosen to host the inaugural event and the MOSTI has teamed up with the Sarawak Biodiversity Centre (SBC), Malaysian Biotechnology Corporation (Biotechcorp), Malaysia Genome Institute (MGI) and the Malaysian Biotechnology Information Centre (MABIC) to jointly organize BioBorneo 2012 which will take place from 24 to 26 February 2012.
Themed “Accelerating Innovation of the Borneo Bioeconomy” BioBorneo 2012 will be held at Pullman Hotel and the Hills Shopping Mall and will comprise of a Seminar and Mini Symposium; Industrial Exhibition and Business Matching sessions; and MyBio@School and BioCarnival progammes.
The one day seminar held on 24 February will feature distinguished speakers who will update participants on the nation’s bio-economy, latest technologies, innovations and policies in the biotech industry. The Mini Symposium will be held on the afternoon of 25 February and is will focus on “algae for Food, Feed and Fuel”.
Chief Minister, YAB Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib is expected to officiate the event on the morning of 25 February 2012.
A minimal seminar-mini symposium participation fee will be charged at RM200 per person while students of higher institutions of learning are offered a discounted rate of RM100 per person.
BioBorneo is also offering exhibition booths from 24-26 February 2012 to feature works and products (sales of products are permitted) from industries, departments, entrepreneurs and institutions of higher learning.
